Bento Box Fever!

Ooops forgot to say, my almost 15 year old daughter is enjoying lunches like these too. It so undoes the whole sandwich trap and is more interesting and more filling!

Earlier this week I baked some chicken legs to include in our lunches. A little brown rice, a chicken leg, carrots and peas rounded out my lunch nicely.

It sounds to me like they have less than a half-hour for lunch. Which I don't really understand, for such young children. What pressing engagements do kindergartners have that they can't take time to eat their lunch? And their lunch period includes time spent standing in line for trays or milk.

Here's a question about packing lunches for little ones:

Do any of you put notes in your child's lunch? I keep meaning to start doing that, and then forgetting. I put one in tonight reminding her to buy milk (she forgets to get a drink if I don't pack it), and added, "I am proud of you!" on top.

I just like the stories that my now-adult friends have of parents leaving them notes in their lunches.

I'm still offline but the computer should be finished the beginning of next week. Aaarrrg!
Anyway, I've brought a couple of lunches myself this week and got a mixture of raised eyebrows, and "oh how cute!" and "mmmmmmmm! will you pack my lunches?" Alex has been on a lunch strike too, picking at this and that. He says he doesn't have time also. I think he is too busy socializing!
I sent him to school with a sort of note today. It was a small gala apple that he picked himself last weekend, in a small white paper bag. I drew an apple on it and wrote, "Happy Johhny Appleseed's Birthday!" Maybe he'll eat a little more of the apple today. : )

i found this site. it's from the hot dog company in japan whose hot dogs (weiners) i ate as a kid. i know ya'll can't read it but if you click on the blue letters, it'll show the step by step tutorial on a pop up window, of how to cut the hot dogs. and the section peices are stuck together with dry spagetti noodles as sticks. i'm definitely going to try my hand at making the shark for my boy. LOL

Thanks all. My dh's bento lunch box is coming this coming Wed. I cannot wait to use it and make his lunches in it.
