Best candler for dark eggs

Build one! Mine candles these maran eggs we got from people for the FFA kids. They are dark still but you can see them. It is 8" X 8" X 8". Has a ceramic base at the bottom and a flood light inside. This light gets HOT so you might want to make the heighth a little more like 12". We drilled a hole in the top that was the size of the small end of the egg. (hindsight, I wish I had a second hole in the top for candling button eggs or quail eggs.

The way I candle my maran eggs is I candle it in the basement at night (where the eggs are located). That way it's dark outside, nothing to draw your eyes elsewhere.

I cup the egg in one hand and use it as the box and put the LED light underneath it. I have successfully been able to candle them pretty well.
I took 6-7 eggs out the other day, and blew them out

Couldn't let them go to waste!!!

I haven't been too crazy about led lighting... about how many lumens is the light you use?

Not all led's are made the same, and if you have an led thing from a walk in store that says it has 100 led's... or even just more than a single LED inside of it... it's just a bunch of project lights and a marketing gimick. Look for things with a 3W cree LED and such if you want real power. About 300 focused beam lumens is good for the average egg, but thick dark shells are often going to be a beast if you're on a lighting budget. The hardest part about lumens is getting them to all go in one direction.
