Best chicken for eggs?

Lots of breeds lay eggs very well. To answer this question, you need to think about what you want. Do you want white eggs, brown eggs, blue or green eggs? Leghorns are very good layers of large white eggs, and they rarely go broody which means there won't be many gaps in their laying, except for the winter slowdown, which you can combat with lights and a heat source. Sex links are almost undoubtedly the best for brown egg laying, being that there is no chance your female chick will accidentally turn out to be a rooster and they lay very well. They are also bred to not go broody, so just like leghorns, there will be few gaps in egg laying. For blue, green, or pink eggs you might want to look into easter eggers. Hatcheries tend to breed theirs to lay very well. There are lots of breeds that lay well, though, and these are just some of the more well known, widely available breeds. This chart compares many breeds and lists their average egg laying capabilities, if you'd like to explore other options. Good luck picking out the breeds that work best for you!
