Silkies are a child's best friend. Extremely gentle yet sturdy As long as the child knows how to hold a chicken and has learned how to be gentle a silkie could become their new best friend. My 18 month old loves the Silkies because they are so soft.
I'm gonna have to pick up a few silkies for myself....er...my kids now. I miss having them around!

Alright so I need to do this quickly as the parks meeting starts in 15 mins.
These are our 5 breeds that so far is a winner

BO

Buckeye

Silkie (possibly silkie bantam)

Brahmas

Sussex

This isn’t for sure. Gonna run it through the commitee.
Will ask about sponsorships!
Wonderful choices. :clap Sussex seem to be one of the most consistently lovable breeds out there. :love Also, if you do indeed go through with Buckeyes (a very nice option, indeed), try to keep an eye on them. Mine, both standard and bantam, are bullied rather profusely. :hmm

Funny silkie story :D

I was convinced my one special chick I had picked out a boy from straight run. At about 14 weeks I heard the most pitiful attempt at a "crow". Yep. I'd gotten a boy. The other 6 were red sex link and I knew were girls. Oh the dreams I had about what frankenchicken would come out of that cross. I religiously collected the 6 brown eggs to ensure no little surprises could hatch out. Low and behold around 22 weeks DH came in to the house laughing holding his hand out.

DH finally caught his breath long enough to tell me to count the eggs.

You forgot to put d'Uccles on your list LlamaGirl!! How could you!
Honestly the single most sweetest and kid-friendly birds I have ever had <3
Actually I mentioned them to the park commitee as well so don’t yell at me! Lol:oops:
Some park member said they had d’Uccles once and they weren’t cold hardy at all. It gets pretty cold here. Are your d’Uccles hardy?

Brahmas and buff Orpingtons are known for being cold hardy and they’re great with kids, I think that mix would be lovely at a park :)
