Best Fox Deterrent..Fox Den in back yard!!

We have hawk attacked our chickens a few times. We hanged few old CDs and having seen any around for 2 years now. The color CDs spin around dither animals and keep them away. You could also put a radio and play loud radio music next to the coop.

Not a joke. They wiped out my neighbors flock in one day.

Foxes whiped out my neighbors flock twice. The run /coop was not a safe haven for the chickens. But it was firm enough to keep the chickens in. The chickens couldn’t get out while the fox could get in.

Foxes are known for surplus’s killing. That’s why the best solution is to make a secure coop and let the chickens free range during the day or make a secure coop/run combination where foxes can’t get in. But if you like to have happy and healthy chickens without much cleaning and bothering you need an very large run. I combine a covered run with free raging. So far so good (for over 5 years now).

One of the advantages of having foxes around the the place where I live is that they go after rats and mice. Never had a plague.

I have had a couple of fox over the years kill some of my birds so I eliminated them. Once they kill they will be back for more. Since I have seen more fox on my property but they haven't messed with my birds. If they do I will eliminate them. One fox dug under a gate to one of the pens and killed several birds and dragged them out under the gate. Now I have concrete under the gates. Another fox killed my most special bird while she was dust bathing. I was out but got distracted when the fox sneaked in and grabbed her. Both incidents were during the day. My pens are all covered to protect the birds from aerial predators. I have electric wire around my coops and pens. You can teach your kids not to touch the wire and if they do they will learn not do it again. I have touched mine when I have been working around the coops and have forgotten to turn it off. Fox are not endangered. Good luck...
