I made sure that my chicken sitter was my best friend, she has chicken-sat many times before (successfully) and I could trust her. When I got back all my chickens were happy and healthy! She knew more about chickens than me when I started so she was my obvious best chicken sitter.

I hope your kitty is improving (crazy cat lady here, so I understand how stressful it must be ).
I make sure that I'm never gone long enough that I have to be concerned, maybe I'm crazy. I have only entrusted horse/cow/chicken duty to my grandparents and boyfriend ( now, they're "OUR" animals ) , as I know I can trust them and not only do they have experience, they also know each animal as an individual--even the chooks.

Tractor supply. They have the water and feed things the same size.
