Aw heck, or heard a busy signal, or the sound of a rotary dial! Now those were the good old days!
So meta, because I’m sitting here on my phone responding to your thoughts about smartphones!!!I guess that I'm still living the good old day's then. I don't have to be married to my phone.

My dad had the same attitude. Didn't want to be chained to a phone, were his exact words. He bought a dumb prepaid cell phone, "for emergencies". Except, he always kept it off unless he wanted to make a call, nevermind receiving a call in emergencies!!! Last year a huge wildfire burned through our town, burned his house to the ground, and burned my place to the ground, we were all evacuated and terrorized and newly homeless. And nobody could get ahold of him on that worthless cell phone, because he always kept it OFF. We thought he may have been burned up or something for a couple of days!! What good does THAT do in an emergency?I guess that I'm still living the good old day's then. I don't have to be married to my phone.

Keeping it with you and on goes a long ways towards it being useful, if you don't do that already. Emergencies aren't always on your end, either, forgot to add that.I do have the home phone. Our dumb phone is for backup if the phone line's go out, or when we go somewhere.
