My Bielefelder, Nettie, laid her first egg a few days ago and has laid every day since! She laid at exactly 7 months, so textbook late developer like all the info on the breed says. I honestly wasn’t expecting her to lay until spring lol.

Daphne, 7.5 month old laid second soft shell egg in a week. It was broken in a nest with 3 other eggs. After a nice dose of calcium citrate she expelled some clear watery poo so she earned a night in the ICU, aka the Chick-U, complete with en suite and kitchenette. She is turning her back on me in protest.

I've been lurking but now I need to jump and shout. It's a miracle!!!
I ordered 12 Bielefelder eggs from Ebay. Shipped eggs are risky, but I did it anyway.
Yesterday they hatched, 9/12, 3 were early quitters. The miracle part:
8 female, 1 male!!! The breeder replied they have been getting many females this year. I'm happy!!!

Picture of my girl Brownie I’ve had 2 Bielefelders & I love them. Very gentle & they lay huge, gorgeous dark brown eggs. They are definitely big girls- I guess around 9 or so pounds! Also so pretty. RIP to my other Bielefelder, her name was Bertha. (Last Pic)

My crew have transitioned to the coop full time, so there's lots of zoomies, hop-flights, wing flapping, scratching at the ground and nipping grasses. Pity the poor bug that happens to cross paths with this bunch!

I wonder what they would do to a mini snowman? Maybe I'll make one and do a photo series.

She ate his nose (sunflower seed) before I could get a picture. Poor snowman lost his face, then his head!
