I also think this is the case, but haven't been able to find any lovely charts or other display devices that show this. Do you have any links?

The only one I've seen is for Washington State only. http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/welfare-state/Content?oid=6686284

It would seem that of the top 15 states that collect the most welfare 1 is a red state 2 are flip flop states and 12 are blue states.

Wal-Mart is a good place to work under 2 conditions. 1 if you plan on moving up in the company and earning more then min. wage and 2 if you're going to school or training for a job at another company.
If you don't like them don't shop there. But it would seem that millions love them.

and there is a problem too, millions are using places like walmart because many companies try to get a monopoly over an area so people have no other options for a job or place to shop . cant get payed 10 dollars an hour at a mom and pop electronics store or grocery store if a super walmart arrives down the street with prices 1/2 of the mom and pop store but at the price of making minimum wage if you work there.

Thus lowering the quality of people that live in the area. Higher class people are not going to want to work for minimum wage so they move out of the area leaving people that don't mind being paid less or have no other opinion. these people have less income to devote to resources in the area so the area suffers

I know what you are saying Mike. In my area I had very limited options for a job. The hospital, the grocery store or a gas station. Or I could have gone back to my operators union and went back out on the road and be away from my family all summer and only home for a couple days a week if I am lucky.
I make $9 an hour. I'm pretty darn happy with that. I have the option of getting health insurance through them, but I already have health insurance so instead of paying however much it is I put it into our house.

One of the banks had an opening but they hired someone from out of town who then promptly quit because they did not want to drive so far. A local girl got it instead.

Quote: Wal-mart is an easy mark for haters because they are so big. I work for a regional retail company. I figure I am a half step up over most of the lower level people at wally world, I got an education from a Jr college while getting my education. I figured I would get a degree for an office job where there was a chance for advancement and a demand for the type of degree. sure enough I finished my AS and the economy here is so horrible they are asking for 2-3 years experience in the field and/or a BS degree. They are getting 8-10 year people and masters and doctorate degree holders applying (and getting) those jobs.... SO much for "college is the path to a bright future" that is a load of something I can't say here.

There are to many kids going to college that have no business being there. This poop about every kid should go to college is a bunch of bull. Most come out with a B or C but there are a bunch of A's that are going to get hired. The kid that learns how to be a plumber with no debt is so much better off. If your grades aren't good enough to get a scholarship for college then you probably don't belong there.
It's a supply and demand world. Right now there are to many degrees after to few jobs.
