Note : The bird on the left is prepared for flight while the bird on the right is prepared to run , and can they run , you bet they can run . That's snow , not water on the ground .

Eastern Phoebe
They scout an area early to check for grubs that hatch from your lawn as Millers . If they move on to other locations you have no feed for them to raise little ones . If they stay you will have Millers and if a Miller surfaces for flight the Phoebe doesn't miss .

I love Gambels quail. We don’t have them here, but I bought a metal statue of one while I was in Arizona on vacation.
