Not the chipping sparrow but maybe the white crowned...?? But the 'crowns' on them aren't white and black, they're tan and dark brown! So confusing!

I think juvenile white-crowns can look like that? I love a good mystery!

Yup, the juveniles... but that would mean that there are no adults! lol

I saw a male bufflehead duck yesterday morning and a female gadwell this afternoon! Usually I only see mallards and the occasional wood duck so I got pretty excited!

I went by the same pond I saw those two in today and saw more cool birds! If what I remembered of them was correct by the time I got to my bird book, it was a pair of cinnamon teal!

NestWatch Season has begun, spring is here!

I have a pair of House Finches in my yard building a nest in a tree/shrub! I haven't looked at it yet, but once they lay eggs I'll try to take a look. Oh, and the family named them Jack and Jill!

Last year a pair of Mourning Doves tried a nest in my yard twice. I think both times failed, but the nest is twelve feet up and on a slope so I can't see into it. Well, this year the nest is so beat up that I can see through the bottom and there are no eggs in sight, but the mama dove sits on the nest for a couple hours each day. I don't have great hope in this nesting attempt, both because the eggs will probably get chilled from below and these are probably the dimmest birds in Idaho!
