Who's been enjoying The Great Backyard Birdcount?!?! (Feb 18-21)

Me! I've been counting the birds coming to my feeders. That's one thing I love about winter. All the birds that are hard to find in summer, come right to my porch.

Need some help for my checklist - I am in Alabama, and this is a new looking bird for me. Any help identifying would be much appreciated - please click for full image. Thank you! Can provdie video - think it is a sparrow species.

It would appear to be a Fox Sparrow of the red variety.

@GravityWaves - That matches it perfectly thank you! Well that's a first for me - mainly White-throated is all I catch a glimpse of.

@HomesteaderWife Right now there should be several sparrow species wintering in your area, along with more common ones that don't migrate. Fox sparrows nest from northern Alaska across to the northern parts of Canada so the bird you saw likely has a long trip coming up fairly soon.

Yep, definitely a Fox Sparrow, one of my favorites!!

Thank you for the help in identifying my first bird! Wow, the Fox Sparrow is a cutie. I have a short clip I managed to get of two American Goldfinch bickering with the Fox Sparrow and the Song Sparrow

I'm probably too busy, sadly. It would be so hard to count the starlings! There are probably at least 100,000 of them.

Woah, that's a lot! I know starlings are invasive, but I do love watching them fly together!
