Bit by the hatching bug ... Marans hatch

I am a first time hatcher and I was wondering what lock down means? and any other helpful tps you can give me. Thanks
Lockdown is the last 3 days of incubation, you stop turning the eggs and up the humidity.

Here's a pretty good lowdown on the whole hatching process...do some reading in the incubation forum.

I have wheaton marans right now, I got 4 out of the batch, and I got 3 ameraucana, the total was 15, but it's my first batch and they sat for awhile before going in.
I'll try again with a batch going in on the 20th, I have blue copper marans coming. Life is interfering right now.

Can you explain what you do with the "cut up egg carton?"

this was posted by "naglady" in another thread to show....

I actually cut them down a bit further....nice to have them sitting stationary so when chicks start to hatch they can't knock the other eggs all over. Holes in the bottom for air/heat circulation.

I think Im a Bi-Polar hatch watcher...lol. When I hear one chirp....Im sure they all will hatch.... then after a while of silence, Im convinced they all died...

Wasn't sure if it might impede their escape from the shell.... the rolling around might help in some cases?
No problems with my last hatch that I could see tho....figured the lower carton sides might be a good idea.
Still no pips here.
