Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Thank you! Can not find another single white feather anywhere on his bod, just light reflections in the pics.

Wynette, here is another pic from a week ago, he's not really posing here either but a different angle and I wasn't following him (sneaking!) around the inside of the coop:) In this pic the wind was blowing his tail up a little from natural position.

Edited to say: GOOD MORNING ALL!! Sometimes I am too much business, sheesh!

The beetle sheen is normal and IMO is nothing to worry about. I like him. Question? In the second photo of him in your previous post....is his underfluff near his rear end a little on the brownish tinged side or is it just the camera and lighting?

Thank you Pink! I want to like him too and good reports so far! The brownish tinge is just camera and lighting. Am I still on your list for girlfriends for him?

Glad to hear that it is just the lighting. Yes you are still on the list for girlfriends......we are on hold right now as the girls are not being very egg friendly. I believe they are fed up with the weather and starting to strike. I will be in touch.

By the time you get done with the marans thread . . . . .. You will need a NINE step program to QUIT hatching !

Actually, all the info here is a little, ok a LOT overwhelming! I'm not even sure where to start, and my ADD has my jumping from thread to thread as they are all so interesting!!!

I would really like to have marans and seramas. I love the dark brown eggs from the marans and the seramas are just neato! Beyond that, I have no idea where to start. Well, I did bid on a Hovabator 1588 on ebay, so we'll see if I win it. I have a couple of runs that I had fennec foxes in, but have been empty for quite some time and need to clean out the brush and small trees that have started growing in there, and will need to put some hardware cloth along the bottom (has 1/2" x 1" wire) and build a coop. But beyond that I'm really not sure where to start with all this info.

I do want to learn how to breed to get true to type and color for any breed of chicken I end up raising. Bah..........too much to learn!!! But it will be fun, of that I am sure!

Is there any way we can find out "FOR SURE" what the thinking is about white toe feathers ? ? ?

The white undercoat / fluff is a fault.
The white in wing or Tail feathers is a DQ. . . ..

I can not imagine ( although I am hopeful because my favorite roo does have a couple of white toe feathers) that white would be acceptable on a BCM anywhere. . . .. . Is there someone IN THE KNOW that we could contact and find out FOR SURE ? ? ?

Lisa, I checked everywhere that it is legal and can find nothing. The only thing I can find is it says under Langshan white toe feathers are not to be penalized.

i do not know anyone in the know so no help here.
