Black Friday Shopping...Who's Going and what are you shopping for?

I used to do this every year... I always got killer deals, got there early, waited, shivering... but I was killer at getting the first of something. Everyone got what they wanted, and I didn't have to charge a thing.

This year, I had to use layaway at kmart for the few things left I needed to get for the little ones. They will have to be humble, and grateful for everything this year. I've already told them santa had to let some of the elves go. There wasn't enough donations to keep the North Pole running this year, it was a hard year for everyone & there wasn't much money.

I even added that we need to donate some of our old toys this year, clothes & coats too. My daughter was very happy to share... and we filled up a couple of bags. I think this will help her understand more this year. Things have never been this tight, but she will get some things from Santa anyways... and I'm sure she will be more then grateful for everything.

I know I am surely grateful for all the people I found who trading with me on Etsy.

But I think we can all agree.... we all just want them to be happy & to be with family in the end.

One year when I was young my father was on strike during Christmas. I remember the neighbor lady came down and gave my Mom $50....that was alot of money back then and my Mom cried. My parents of course remember how horrible it was, how they gave us so much less than previous years, how my Mom cut way back on her baking, how we all got what we needed, not what we wanted..... The only other thing I remember about Christmas that year is...Santa still brought me everything I wanted. I don't remeber it being any different from other years. Goes to show you it's not always how much you get, it's how much you're loved!

I'm going to TSC to pick up some BOSS @ $5 off and chicken feed and that's it. Will do the rest of my shopping from the comfort of my computer chair.

Some of the stores here are opening at 3AM. Personally, I wouldn't shop on Black Friday even if all of the merchandise was free. I don't like to shop in the best of times, and I hate crowds.

My hubby and I went to Gamestop last night at 12 am and got his PS3 he has wanted for years. It came with a bundle pack of Gods of War - one of his favorite games. SO then for the fun of it we went across the street to Wal-mart, just for a lookey -loo. We went in and the lines were from the front of the store clear to the back of the store. We thought it would have been funny just to get in line with some hand soap (we ran out) and see if people would let us just cut since we only had one thing. I did go back this afternoon and got a couple of the fleece for $5 and some of the $1.96 movies. No waiting in line either.

I usually avoid Black Friday! However, I was lured out with the promise of a $99 Sonicare 5300 toothbrush on sale at Kohl's for $39.99. I really wanted one as my old one was a bit tired. Kohl's opened at 3AM but I got there about 10AM. The lines were long but moving well and everyone seemed polite and there wasn't any pushing, shoving and the like you usually hear about.
I nabbed the last one. The box was damaged but the interior packaging was fine and since it was just for me that was fine.
I had a 15% Kohl's coupon AND a $20 manufacturer's coupon that my dentist gave me last week. I was thrilled to score exactly what I wanted for $18!!!!

That was all I went to get. I had lunch at Maggiano's with a friend and then went home.
It was a good day.

I was at a mall today, got there around 11:30. The mall was jam packed, parking lot full, although I actually got lucky and found a spot right away. I was curious if people would be buying a lot of materialism this year. I just didn't see it. I mean, yeah, some people had a lot of big bags and all, but I think people are being very cautious and thoughtful about their gift giving. I saw people buying clothes, cd's, and the one bookstore there was full. Some stores like the GAP and DEB had virtually no shoppers. All the eating places were standing room only. Even as we left the mall (I didn't buy anything there except a soft pretzel for $1.89) I saw that all the restaurants parking lot's were full to capacity. I got home around 2:00 and enjoyed a nice meal of leftover turkey and took a nice nap to boot! So it was a good day for me. Didn't spend much elsewhere either - we stopped at a Goodwill on the way home. Yep, found a lampshade for 97 cents there. They are like $8.00 and up new. For me, buying new is like so over for a lot of things.

I needed up at TSC too. I could have waited and gone tomorrow or Monday but it was better for my schedule to go tonight. Needed dog food & and a deicer...grabbed some other things while there, too (yes, including a $5 gift for someone...)

Ended up stopping at some 2ndhand shops on the way home. Good deals there, too, like a super nice patio chair for $5, a nice split log bench for $2.99 & some books for a buck or two.
