Black Java hatching eggs/6 eggs + extras

Hello:

I've looked at Javas for several years, and I'm not crazy about black chickens, BUT that being said, Javas seem to have such a shine to them that they are beautiful black colored.

Can you please give me more information on them? Do the roos get mean as they get older? Do the set well? Are they insistent setters?

I have some predatory birds in the area. Can they withstand that pressure?

Thanks.
These are true heritage birds, they are extremely hardy, to disease, the elements and excellent foragers.
So far, it is reported back 10 years that out of thousands hatched, only 1 cockerel was ever "man agressive" and that being passive agressive, he would not chase you down, but if you walked into a corner he was in, he got upset.
That said, that bird was culled immediately.
Mine are cautious, friendly, some are 'talker' and some are a bit distant, none are mean.
Out of the flock I have breeding now, so far 1 has gone broody, which is fine, just one.
They are excellent dedicated Mothers, and from what I have been told by others, Cocks do not harm chicks, they protect them.
I have my broodies in a seperate coop...
As far as predator birds, we have a Bald Eagle pair nesting a half mile away, and lots of assorted hawks.
These birds watch the sky & sound the alarm if they see a raptor...oddly enough, if they see a turkey vulture they go on about their business...it is odd but I guess it is ingrained in them what IS and is NOT a predator.
Have you noticed how the cockerels have different hackle than other birds ?
They are beautiful......
Hope this helps !

Note: I have a seperate sale right NOW for 12/plus extra Java eggs for $30 due to the fact that a buyer has backed out the day before shipping !
These eggs were due to ship Monday or Tuesday 4/2 or 4/3..and are fresh & ready to go !
I'd hate to have to make an omellette here folks~~~~~~~~~~~~PM immediately or e-mail as they need to be shipped tomorrow or Tuesday to be fresh, I only hold eggs for 5 days before shipping...that is my belief.
Thanks for looking !

I love my javas. Right now I only have 2 hens but I find them to be unusally quiet. I usually don't hear any talking, peeping, squawking. They don't get upset with other hens, they don't start fights and they are great layers. They are just the best all around bird.

I was given 10 chicks last year that hatched here in Mich in Aug with the understanding that the best were going to go back to my daughter, who hatched them. She is very selective and only wants breed quality. I lost a couple almost adult birds, butchered a roo that chased the hens all over, butchered another slow growing one and kept the 2 hens and 2 roos. One of the roosters at 5 months had a hanging weight of 6 lbs. and that was for a free range bird.

My daughter let me keep the 2 roos and 2 hens to start my flock but later on I took the 2 roos to her as I already had an old rooster that I wanted to protect. When I can separate, I will get one of the roos back so I can get purebred eggs to incubate. I love these birds and want more. I love the shiny black colors.

I just have such a marginal hatch on my shipped eggs. I know that they go through the capital, and I am sure that they run them through an X-ray machine. When folks have wrapped them in foil, I do get a few more. I think these birds are so beautiful.

I have just had that same thing told to me by a few others.
I have then talked to my PO and they assure me there is no such thing as X rays at any facility due to the fact that so much mail is magnetically sensitive, what this being the computer/credit card/DVDs and CD era.
They cannot X ray mail.
They did say in the 2006 era, so many govt workers were being shipped anthrax to WA DC that bio-"siffers" were installed, whic meant some sort of sniffing sensors and then microwaves were used to "cleanse" anthrax..............which would cook any egg until it blew up.
Packing the eggs is paramount, and having fresh eggs at or under 6 days old, is so important as the yolk/membranes break down over time.
You can see this if you crack a fresh egg open as the yolk stands tall and almost completely round.
Then crack open a 4 week old store bought egg (all store bought eggs are old or you would not be able to hard boil & peel them)
You will notice the store bought egg is kinda flat.often the yolk breaks open.
The old egg cannot take jarring.
Hope you have better luck in the future !
