Quick rundown of wingbanding....
Tools:
Take the bands and line them up beforehand so you don't have to fight with lining up the rivets while handling the bird too.
Stretch the wing out and find the loose skin.
Stick the pointed end in there.
Line up the rivets.
Clamp together.
Done... Now watch them feel sorry for themselves and pick at them for the next 2 hours. Pretty soon they forget they are even there.
It takes about 15 minutes to do a whole batch of chicks. On the older birds, its easier to have someone holding the bird for you. We all know how hard it is to find help always though. Pluck a few feathers on the underside of the skin of the wing so you don't lose your hole. Insert nail to make a hole. Put band through and clamp together. No blood and not any harder on them than piercing ears.
