Blood Test Results Pg 7 11/12 Lilly R.I.P.

I hope she pulls through. I've lost too many this year to internal laying, with two more on the way out. It's horrendous, I know. Has she been laying? Has she lost weight? Mine became skin and bones after not laying for a long period.

She was on medicated chick starter through age 15 weeks then she went on an all in one with is an 18% protein and then when she began laying at age 24 weeks, she went on layer pellets. they refused the pellets so I put them on the layer mash/crumbles. She gets 1 lb of whole flax seeds per 25lbs of layer. they get fresh washed greens, cooked oatmeal, plain yogurt on occasion, steamed plain brown rice as a treat. She has not had any treats in about 3 days.

She has been given two drops of polyvisol no iron, she has a vitamin/electrolyte in her water.

Her poo is really making me think worms. I am not sure the cage layer faitgue could be the problem...but I am open to all possibilities. I am calling my vet in the am to talk to him. I am going to worm everyone else for sure. She is doing much better, she hopped up onto my magazines by my chair and drank out of the cup of water I had been giving her water from. She also walked around a bit.

I will go get yogurt for her in the am and I have no seen avian charge around here anywhere. Most places have Wazine, the pre-mix vitamin and electrolyte packets which I have and terramyacin which i also have. That and rooster booster are about it for poultry stuff. sad huh?

Cyn, she has lost some weight but not overly much and she is not skin and bones. She laid this am fine. nice egg as usual, good shell and no problems laying. She was on the nest when I went in to let them out. I really think this is a worm problem. Last week, bless her heart, she did not make it to the nest in time and just stood in the run, dropped the egg and went back to eating. Only time she has done that. No prolapse and she is not straining or at least I cannot notice anything different in her laying.

she lays a good sized egg almost every day...she is averaging 5 per week.

She is in her box in DD's bedroom, looking around and being quiet. she is not near as lethargic as she was. I am really at a loss and I do not want to lose her.

She is such a sweetie pie...and she is my growler. She growls like the dog. hahahahaha

I am downloading pics of her standing up...what is the internal laying like Cyn? Symptoms? Feel anything different on them? etc etc

Okay 9:33 update...she has a runny nose...clear discharge from her nostril. She is also very warm...almost like she is running a fever. Can a chicken run a fever?

I lost a few this summer with similar symptoms. I treated them with penicillin which didnt work. After the second hen died I decided the penicillin wasnt working. I had another one get sick so I wormed everyone with Ivermectrin and she and all the others bounced back and are still fine. I also found poop with worms in it after the worming. Good Luck, I'll keep you in my prayers

AviaCharge 2000 is only available online from McMurry or Strombergs.
She may have pigged out on the flax seeds:
http://animalscience.ucdavis.edu/Avian/pfs21.htm
"...Flaxseed may be processed by mechanical expellers or solvent extraction and the residual linseed meal is available as an animal feed ingredient. Linseed meal is an important feedstuff for cattle but its use in poultry feeds is limited.

Flaxseed contains a cyanide containing glucoside, linamarin, which releases hydrogen cyanide under acidic, moist conditions in the presence of an enzyme, linase. Under normal processing conditions involving high temperature treatment, linase is destroyed so that the subsequent release of hydrogen cyanide is not a problem. ...."

I hope the vet can help. It is so hard on us to have a sick girl, but this must devastating for your DD.

Get well soon!

She is still hanging in there this am. Not eating or drinking much at all. Poo was loose but white and dark green. I am leaving in a minute or two to take a poo sample for fecal float at the vet who treats my dog. This evening a speciality vet is making a house call on his way home this evening to check Lilly and bring Ivermectin to worm all the girls. Yes house call...and get this... $25 for the house call. I was like "Ya wanna stay for dinner?" LOL

So I am off.

flax seeds...they are mixed throughout the food and not heavily at all. All my girls have been on them since they were 4 weeks old.

Cheyenne is doing much better with this today. she kept Lilly in her room. Actually Lilly slept on the bed with DD the reason...."Just in case Lilly needed anything.
