Blood!

I think perhaps my roosts are too high and/or I don't have enough bedding on the floor. So when they jump down they get a soft tissue injury on the pad of their foot that can lead to bumble foot.

After cleaning the coop just now it is quite clear to me that the blood is not in poop. It just looks like somebody was bleeding overnight. I'll give you guys an update in the morning after I inspect everyone individually. I was able to get the bumble foot core out of everyone in whom I found it. Going to go get some blue coat or Scarlex Oil to apply to the wound tonight. After I cleaned it out I applied some triple antibiotic , but I'd like to do something that will adhere to the tissue like bluecoat or scar Lex oil. Thanks again so much everyone! Your comments have been very helpful.

Well, glad you've got it figured out!

I hate when my chickens are on the patio and jump down onto the concrete, sounds brutal when they land. So ya, I always try to make sure there is bedding material to land on inside the coop. And I have a ramp, but they don't all use it. Seems they don't always know what's best.

So over the last few days my coop has had some terrifying bloody looking stools in it, looks quite similar to the photo you posted. Two of my three chickens are moulting but all of them look well and are eating and drinking. I have been searching for answers all morning, considering necrotic gastroenteritis and coccidiosis and then lightbulb moment! Over the past week I have been clearing my veggie beds of chard and beetroot by feeding these to the chooks, they love beetroot stocks. Beetroot poo. Any chance if your chooks seem otherwise well that they have found themselves a tasty treat which is dyeing their poo?

Only to realize they had raided the strawberry patch.

But it's always good to consider what they've eaten. It's a great diagnostic tool.
