Blue Andalusian thread!

There is no feathering pattern to the chick down color that I have noticed in 8+ years of raising Andalusians. You'll know your males in just a couple weeks.
Thank you Lacy! just want to make sure that I do the breed justice by maintaining health and egg production as well as color. I have more links on the genetics articles I've found, one of them was a Phd thesis from 1920...I love the fact that they are old articles because the way they are written could fit today's world perfectly...here is the link.

I got 10 Andalusian chicks from a hatchery last year just for the heck of it...while I was waiting to get my really good andalusians. Their quality is terrible. They don't even have lacing...just some ratty edging. Their body type is small and junky also. I think every one of them has a squirrel tail. I butchered all the boys, am slowly giving away the girls...they do lay nice white eggs pretty regularly tho!

For people who want to show birds, I would not recommend getting them from a hatchery. Hatcheries sell great yard birds. My first hatchery Easter eggers are still my best layers...3 years later! Lol

But for birds to show one must go to a reputable breeder.

Thank you I have photos of all the original babies but too sad to post since so many died 1st week

Sorry to hear that some of your chicks didn't make it

I was so sorry to hear about them.

I have had good luck with my chicks so far... I have only lost 1 as a chick... but it is so sad to see them go like this. I had some from my feed store last year. They were growing up very pretty. Not really any lacing but I was happy with them. They were about 20 weeks old when a dog took them all including most of my other birds.
Hopefully the new chicks will help...
