Blue Andalusian thread!

Pics
They look pretty nice. The blue pullet is very nice, color wise. A little bit dark but she's not bad. The standard calls for their hock joints to be visible well below the belly, like you see on the males and even the splash female.

Just a word of caution... this is the age where mine start to walk a little funny... picking their feet up pretty high with the toes spread wide apart while walking, not a relaxed gait at all. This is due to not enough calcium in their diet. Start watching them walk and if they start like I've described, you'll need to get them a feed with more calcium in it. Flock Raiser by Purina is good, it has a slightly higher calcium content than regular chick starter and its a good feed for them. If you've been feeding it all along, you probably won't even notice any strange gaits.

Good luck with them.

Is it ok to put oyster shell out for them at this age if they start walking a little funny?

What is "...at this age..." Use a good multi-breed feed like Purina Flock Raiser (like suggested above) and add free choice oyster shell when they are about the laying age. Laying age is usually around 20 weeks for most hens. My Andalusians did not start laying until about 22-23 weeks...a little later than the rest of my hens.

"This age" is 3-4 months old. Flock Raiser helps a lot and yes you can put oyster shell out. Even my adult males eat a little of it now and again.

My group is only 8 weeks old, but I decided to sit out and get new pics of them in better daylight. I have one black cockerel, Batman. 3 speckled white pullets, one has a slightly larger comb? Named her Marilyn. The others do not have names. 1 blue pullet named Millie. Batman will have a flock of 21 hens to himself of varying heritage breeds. They're still so young so not near as magnificent as the adults are. As before though, I'm very pleased with them this far.

Very nice little birds there! Your splash with the larger comb is a male. You could call him Robin.

Sorry about that. Bramblefir had posted that hers were 12 weeks old and then Lacy Blues was telling her that "at this age", so that's what I was referring to. We give our hens oyster shell free choice when they are laying age also, but I was wondering about the younger age.
