Blue Andalusian thread!

I agree. The combs on Blue Andalusian pullets are small-medium when still chicks, but once they're 4-5 months old, the Blue Andalusians get fairly large combs (similar to leghorns).

Both of my BA girls had what I consider large combs (they're both from the local feed store).

My blue andalusain pullets have slow comb growth. Andalusians aren't supposed to have big floppy combs. Yes they flop over but they aren't supposed to be that big. They're supposed to have a medium sized comb. Here is a picture for an example. For mine, the combs don't even get large enough to flop over until they are pretty much mature, and this pullets has a couple months left before she even lays her first egg. So she's aways from being mature.

Wow.

I never realized until a month ago the difference between typical hatchery Andalusians and real ones. . . That lacing is amazing!!

Now I understand where the need for an appearance of lacing on other blue breeds comes from. . .​

Nice pictures of everyones Andalusians, thought I'd share some of ours:

Here is one of the roosters, we will be using him with the girls and hope to hatch out eggs for our kids 4-H projects.

Here is one of the girls, she is one that my DD took to fair and did well with, we hope to hatch out eggs from her.

Here is a picture of the 3 Blues and 1 Black girl we have. They are hoping for treats and therefore following me as I tried to take their picture:

Right now we have 3 out of the 4 laying eggs and will be moving them to a breeding pen shortly.

We did buy a Standard book even though it is a 2001 edition, that way we could start learning about the breeds our kids are working with for 4-H. We'll have to take a look at the link though!

I'm not a fan of Blue Andalusians but I was happening to search Andalusian horses and found a few Blue Andalusian chickens in the lot.
