Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Blue Ameraucana's come in all shades of blue from real light to nearly black as well as the black and splash..not going to get 2 blue chickens to look alike which I like so I can tell them all apart real easy..Their Blue comes from very good stock
Unless a breeder says 100% blue when you buy a blue bird of any breed you may get all 3 colors of blue none of which are lesser quality just splash in many breeds is not an accepted color if you try to show them your more limited but are still a part of the blues. If you have BlRW it really doesn't matter since the BL is still a project color and hasn't been accepted yet

Can someone please post some pics of the various color variations, blue black and splash, and label them as such. A few of each would be helpful!!
Thanks
Jen

Rebecca and Jerry have great photos of their BLR on this website. You have to check out the silver laced, too. They are perfect! You can judge the shape of the body of your birds against the SL. It will help you appreciate what a great wyandotte looks like. I'm also fortunate enough to be within driving distance of the Foleys (aka Turbo and Mrs. Turbo on byc). I've had their blr for the last 3 years. I'm switching over to strictly black and blue wyandottes. A lady drove from Virginia (!!!) to buy all of my blr breeding stock. All because they came from the Foleys' original stock.

Please feel free to leave some feedback about them. Gary in Salley, SC sold them to me. He's been breeding chickens for 30+ years. He said he wasn't perfectly happy with these due to a few simple faults, but they make nice birds to start a program with. He has AMAZING TRUE HERITAGE RIR!

THANKS FOR LOOKING!

I would not use the rooster.....he has too much gold in his hackles and saddle feathers which is not what you want at all. It could be the picture coloring, but their legs should be much more yellow.

Leg color looks wrong in the pictures as well. The color for the proposed standard calls for mahogany red not gold. The hen in the last pic has poor type as well. They are pretty none the less but for breeding to try to improve on would be more than lots of work.

I am in, I love the look of these birds, and I just hatched three, three weeks ago. Two appear blue, and one looks black. I am wanting to learn as much as possible about breeding and genetics, so I can try to help improve the breed. If anyone knows of a good site for this, please let me know. I may try to take pictures of my 3 birds this weekend and post them on here. I did notice that one has a different comb, which I thought was going to be a single comb, but turned out not to be. I am hoping this is a little roo. These three birds will be the founders of my first purebred flock. I am excited to start this adventure, but have a lot to learn, and hope I do not have to start all over from scratch too many times.
