Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

My 4 month old eating some fodder.

What do you use in your fodder? We tried oats. And kept getting mold!

The feather conditioner is a Purina product. The one I buy is only available in Australia from laucke mills , it's 22 % protein but only 1.8% calcium . The micro pellet is probably less than half the size of your average pellet. I bought it especially for my silkies as they seem to struggle with normal pellets and left them.
I found that mixing it with the whole grain mix ( we call free range ) the birds didn't seem to notice the pellets hidden in there.

I will have to find something with around 20+% protein and a lot less than 3% calcium. With a mixed flock, including Roos and some youngsters, what do you recommend for the maximum amount (%) of calcium ?

I recently had the chance to purchase some of these amazing sweet bird eggs to hatch. They hatch on May 18. They are some of my sweetest babies. I was able to get three pullets and one cockerel. I am looking for a home for the little cockerel. He is of nice size for four weeks. He is keeping up with the welsumer and buff Orpington cockerels. His sisters are all showing signs of blue lacing and he is not as feathered, so I am not sure what his lacing will be. I am in chapel hill, nc. He came from Owl Meadow Farm in Wendell, NC. I would like him to go to someone that wants a BLRW Rooster. I think he would be a great protector of a flock, but is being handled daily and is good natured. PM me for pictures. :) I am currently low on space and need to find him a home soon.

The one on the picture is just wheat. I also do a mix of black oil sunflower seed. They love black oil sunflower fodder. Where I live humidity is very low so I don't have a problem with mold. The thing is you have to drain it very well and have good air circulation. Some people add a little bit of chlorine to the water when they are soaking the seeds, that helps to kill the mold spores.

This is the wheat, black oil sunflower, radish mix they get two days from now. I hope this helps, I've been doing this and fermenting their scratch for a while. My flock is 2 boys and 5 girls. I also grow some for my best friend and I. Same mix of wheat, black oil sunflower, and radish. They go great on salads, hamburgers, stir-fry, or juicing. We pretty much throw them into everything we eat.

I find that so long as I run my fingers through it while I'm watering , it doesn't sludge up. I do barley because it's only $ 10 for a 20 kg bag

Be warned , it's a little addictive. But then so are chickens.

The lacing on this girl is looking very crisp. For that im happy, but can anyone talk about the coloring on the neck area. I think we want to stay away from the brassy color if not mistaken? What color are the breeders shooting for? Thanks in advance.
