Blue Plymouth Rock

Today I was looking at baby chicks at Family Farm and Home and they had a brooder bin labeled
"Rare breed pullets"
"Blue Plymouth Rocks"
I have never heard of them before.
Has anyone on this forum had them before or have them?

I have never heard of them before! However, many egg-laying breeds are coming out in new colors every year. They might be a cross-bred or just a mutation. This isn't an issue though if you just want the chicks for laying, not show. I've bought chick colors i've never heard of before and had great results. If they look healthy, and you ask the staff some questions you should be fine. Rocks are great dual-purpose and hardy birds!

I've not seen Blue Rocks myself either but I'm sure they are out there. Do you know what hatchery they get their chicks from?

They are pretty fetching and seem to be catching. Have had a few posters mention them. Combined from two Heritage Breeds the male Andalusian and the female Plymouth Barred Rock.

I've not seen Blue Rocks myself either but I'm sure they are out there. Do you know what hatchery they get their chicks from?

I believe Family Farm and Home gets their chicks from Townline Hatchery in South West Michigan.

I saw some post today with a women talking about how her husband got her some so I have only just heard about them a few hours ago. I am interested to see pictures of adult birds. The thread had some chick pictures.

townline does not offer most of the chicks FFH sells. Tractor supply co. gets their birds from cackle. The Blue plymouth rocks AKA the saphire gem. is a Hoover original Hybrid,

Blue Plymouth Rocks are an accepted variety in the standard. However, they are quite rare.
