That is one ugly duck! I asked Jim Crain why he would pick the ugliest bird in the showroom as Grand Champion Waterfowl. Jim said that "this ain't no beauty contest. We judge by the Standard of Perfection." He admitted my drake was UGLY, but he is a good representative of the breed. I found mine from a fellow in Oklahoma. I posted in early March that I wanted a pair before the new FWS regulatiosn went into affect. This fellow in SE Oklahoma responded. I was making a trip to Tulsa on business so I drove back his way. The guy allowed me to take my choice of his flock. I carefully picked Dan and Ann. Sure glad I did. It has been years since I gave my SOP to a 4H club. My new one will arrive soon (I hope, ordered it at Shawnee). So I chose what my memory thought were good.
I placed a 2nd on Chocolate Old Drake and a 1st on Chocolate Old Duck. Hope to hatch some better quality this season. We had some incubation issues last season and only saved a young drake. But he is very nice quality. The girls keep disappearing and I am hoping they are laying. The kids keep going easter egg hunting but have not found anything yet.
We also traded for to young ducks this summer/fall. They are a bit too much white, but hoping for a correction in their young. If not, we will sell them at a swap.
I have had Muscovy ducks off and on since 1977. Had whites and colored then.
Would love to have some eggs from your son. Does he ever sell any hatching eggs? Or maybe a trade?
