I agree with those who recommended you go to the United Orpington Club. When I first came to BYC I asked for a Buff cockerel. Didn't find too much I liked that was available. I was told to join the UOC. And quickly was refered to the Club's Secretary. She gave me a list of her top 5 Buff breeders. Of which two no longer have Buff Orps anymore. Sadly both Bob Coulter and Clarence Cannon have left the hobby. Of the others I was told to check into. Terry Britt was at the top of the list, Heather Vermazen, Tony Ewert, and ofcourse Doug's Buffs. Only Terry has a website. Terry was very good to help. I was put on his waiting list. And bought 2 cockerels and 2 pullets. Terry carries a pure Ewert line. I was very happy with his Buff cock I call Tonka. Tonka a pure Ewert line Buff was recommended to me to use with my Doug Buffs. That recommendation came from Doug. Other noteable Buff breeders, would be Roy as mentioned. Don Chandler the UOC President has some Vermazen line Buffs that I believe trace back to Coutler. I could be wrong. My first phone call would be to Terry. I waited 6 months for my two duo's It always pays to be patient.

Bob Coulter had the Clevenger line. They are excellent Buffs.
I sent Bob Blosl the contact info for the 2 folks who got his birds.
PM Bob Blosl for the info.

Good luck with the birds

That is remarkable Charlie. Their about as rare to get as the White Orps. Thank you for sharing the contact info.
I may be lucky and get a recessive White that hatched out from some Buffs. A lady who was the Secretary for the Central Indiana Show has some that had bred in some Silver in their ancestry. And it seems one in 10 chicks hatched are White. I hope to get this one. My fellow Orp friend and breeder of Whites just recieved her 5 from the original breeder who did not want them to got to waste. I am next. All I need is one. And these are from her daughter's Indiana State Fair Junior winning Buff Orp cock. Nice bird!

I found another lost strain of Large Fowl It seems on this Web site Every month I find some large fowl strain that I thought was long gone. We have done this with so many breeds and look at the Araconas from Oklahoma. They look very good to me. Those black and white chickens look very good as well. Do you folks know how rare those two breeds are.??? Maybe less than 50 to 75 alive today. Well good reading and fresh imput these past two weeks. We are creaping up to 300 pages on this tread. We need to have a party. I will bring my big green eggs and steaks. bob

WOW y is this not more populer??? i tryied it earlyer today on 2 young black Orp roosters... i skined them instead of plucking but other than that followed the directions exactly... being as this was my first time doing it it probably took me the same amount of time... but i can see that with practice this would be way faster and easer to do... no need to get the lung pullers out... would save alot of time in the final clean up of the bird....

thanks so much for posting this

They were all pretty fluffed up. I've been trying to take pictures of him today so everyone can see how good looking he really is, and he has spent the afternoon sitting on my feet. I think tomorrow I'll get my daughter to take a picture of him following me around, at least you'd be able to see more than his inquisitive face.

Hello! We are Silver Spring Farm, Springtown, TX. We raise American Buff geese and belong to the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. New to this forum, too. Good to see that there is so much growing interest in preserving our heritage breeds. Our flock is currently in the neighborhood of 40 birds. We also have a pair of Pomeranian Saddlebacks, and a bunch of commercial Toulouse raised primarily for the freezer. We are just starting to exhibit our birds. We have limited ourselves to geese alone for the time being. We want to increase and improve our American Buffs before we expand.

The best American Buffs I have seen were Terry Britts. Heard Metzer Farms had some good ones. Where did you get yours? We tried some from Ideal and had too many with tufts. We sold all of ours and hope to get some better quality this season.
