Body Hatching

The one in the larger shell hatched finally. The smaller one did not make it. Looks like it tried to hatch too early, It never made it out of the shell. This has been exhausting

Sorry he didn't make it. Maybe next time you could pick them out of the shell if they aren't pipping well. Some people say not to do this, but I incubated four Bobwhite eggs and the last one wasn't going to make it out of the shell, she had pipped all the way around, so I picked her out of the shell, and she is now 7 months old and an early layer. She is the only one out of the three females that laid eggs, I have to wait until next spring to get eggs from all three of them now.

congratulations and sorry to the one that didn't make it....wow I sure hope mine will be okay!

Most likely they will be fine. Everyone else seems to do ok. Mine always seem to hatch too early for some reason (and in the middle of the night). It was the same when i was incubating. Could just be genetic. All were from the same birds.

Trying to teach him to eat at the moment. We are slowly getting the hang of it. He seems to prefer drinking water from my fingertips and when i put him down he chirps at me and panics. He wants to live in my hand it would seem. Slept that way after he hatched. He's pretty well behaved.

Yeah. If i do this again i will. I'm always hesitant to help them out but i think in this case i should have. You get really attached.

I climbed into bed this morning and let the little chick peck at my hubby's beard. Made me feel better!
