Light Brahma... 18mo Mrs White (we had a Clue "the board game" theme going on when we started the flock).... she's the Queen of the herd, including full domination over our lil' bantam rooster (Klaus Baby Rooster) who's doing hell of a job considering "the situation"... (10 offsprings this year <high five>). :)

Problem is Mrs White is literally insatiable food wise... She's 12lb and healthy but my wallet and marriage is suffering... I've emptied the bread box and raided the fridge many times just to keep her away from the patio. Worms: check and treated. Coccidiosis, check. Bulimia, ruled out. Poops... property is carpeted.

If I'm cooking and leave the back door open (trips the bbq pit), next thing, she's in the kitchen sniffing around...

I just hope she doesn't burst at some point but otherwise she's healthy but bordering the transition to turkey land... may be a Brahma thing but jeezus... dunno what to do with her at this point...

I can't help but laugh as my brahma, Aster (we have a flower thing going in our flock), is also a black hole. Maybe it is a brahma thing. She is the first to try to eat anything new, and she acts like she's starving any time I walk outside. And her crop is always huge. No health issues, and certainly no appetite issues.

And my patio suffers similarly. I'm fencing in the patio come drier weather.

Lol I'm glad I'm not alone @Aunt Angus .. Aster is very pretty (great theme!) and yes that's what they do... acting like they've been starving for days lol.. Brahmas are super sweet.. except when it come to "new" food sources .. peck a little at their "sisters"... get a taste, then lose interest... just to comeback and clean things up... my wife keeps saying "Mrs White acts like a dude"... lol she is the food bully but in a nice way...

Have had 4 Lt. Brahmas, all named Domino and/or Big Beulah(arcane song reference).
I love me a black and white bird.
But they are eating machines and rather lousy layers considering the input.
2 went to the pot.
2 I was able to sell as pets, because they were very friendly.

Is this serious?
Because feeding 'junk food' might just make them hungrier...
..and curing bad habits(patio lounging/begging) with food is a bad habit.

Good point.. bad habits but usually just some dried bagels, Greek yogurt a few times a week and some granola kids won't eat.

Same with our Brahma she would eat so much and come in the kitchen and have a huge crop

Yea mine crops every time she starts running... it's like a propulsion mechanism.. HUGE!

I agree--it's a brahma thing. Endless eating, porch pooping, toe-eating (my husband was NOT impressed :gig) ... Mine also stay out late looking for that last bug or last blade of grass ( or last tomato that she hasn't already pecked a hole in ) .

One day, my son got so tired of chicken yams on the back porch and getting pushed out of the way every time he tried to go outside, that he "swept" the flock off the porch/stairs with a broom. And the next day and the next, all the while AAAAAGH NASTY BIRDS RRRRR GET OFF Now, all I have to do is open the door and stick the broom outside! Boom--chix everywhere!

LOL... my wife has a spray bottle by the back door... she's the "urban" type not crazy about the homestead life. Her and Mrs White had that love/hate relationship...
