Bought three chicks that we were told were hens--but it didn't turn out that way....

Oh dear!

Maybe it was from the same person we purchased three "hens" from... YES all were cockerells!!!! The woman selling them used a piece of string over each of the chickens and said that the direction indicated whether they were male or female... she does not know her sway from circle.....!!!

Only in France!

Sometimes I think breeders can see signs in their flocks and recognize on the first day just by looking at the chicks who is male and who is female. I told the breeder I bought my chickens from that I only wanted to keep 6 or 7 hens and 1 rooster and the rest were going to a farm to be butchered. Guess what I got ??? YEP 6 hens and SEVERAL roosters to pick from! BUT supposedly they could not be sexed so I had to get a straight run of chicks!
