Boy? Do girls ever hold their tails like this?

Actually, all of my chickens are heavy breed chickens and none of them had the thick legs that my EE roo had. However, my SS & BR roo's legs weren't noticably thick at a young age. hmmm....My EE roo was the lead roo though, maybe that made a difference? I am new to this!! : )

And my EE cockerel has thinner legs than my Welsummer pullets... but I think you're missing my point. When you mix breeds, the chicks will display a mix of traits from their lineage. Comparing one EE to another, therefore, is not at all like comparing one chick to another of the same breed to decide whether the legs are comparatively thick.

I sexed mine on the shape of the tail not on how it was held. The pullets all had wide short tails and the cockerels had thinner longer tail feathers. I guessed on all of them at two weeks and was right. I have done this with two batches now. I vote pullet.

My Speckled Sussex hen looked like a rooster until the laid her first egg. Thick legs, tail held high, you name it she had it. You never know...

Actually, I did understand your point the first time. That is why I pointed out that my other roos didn't have thick legs but then I had a quick thought that maybe it had to do with their lack of being the head roo only because it popped in my head at the time! haha

It is a pullet. I have watched the wing feathers of chicks very closely these last couple of years, and EEs tend to have pullets who get the long wing feathers coming on first and at this age, they all looked this way. The boys are more blocky shaped wings and they have no tail at that age.
