I had my husband put down one of my Brabanter roosters today. He was 1 year, 7 months old.
He was molting and it was hard to tell which was feather loss or weight loss until I finally caught him. He was very thin and was gurgling. However, he never had any nasal discharge, coughing or sneezing. I treated him with Omnimycin just in case, but the gurgling never went away. From experience, I knew it was the end of the road for him. Such a pretty boy too !
I got him and several other Brabanters as chicks from Ideal. Beau is the 5th bird from the bunch who has died. The other four I found dead with no prior symptoms.

What a bummer. Was he your only rooster?
One of my roosters is a gurgler, but has been since he was a baby. He is almost 3. Maybe more of a wheezy gurgle.
Did your others act normally before their death? I think the breed is especially sensitive to dusty conditions. I spray my coops with Oxine (without the added citric acid) a few times a year just in case it's something besides an allergic reaction.

No, I had two pens with a rooster and 6 hens in each one. I have a young cockerel who was going to replace his dad in one of the pens. Now he will replace the rooster I lost.
