Where did the original copy of the blue come from?
On these birds, I traded some silver laced pullets for the white pullets in the last photo with some friends of mine. They were working on the blue lights(columbian) at the time, and did not want to keep the splashes. I suspect it originally came into play via some Cochin blood.
On my blue laced reds, which I had started earlier. I breed a Wyandotte into my gold laced pen.
Thanks, that is really helpful. You are so right, outcrossing seems to bring is something undesireable, but sometimes you have to do it to get what you are looking for.I would say there are always negative effects from every outcross to another breed. Often requiring several generations to breed out.
With the Wyandotte it was comb, leg feathering, size, type, and temperament.
I should amend that first statement to add in situations like this, there will be a loss of type as a result of outcrossing. There can be advantages in hybrid vigor due to added genetic diversity, but that comes at a cost in cases like this.
