They are not ABSOLUTELY SILENT but they are on the quieter side of all the breeds, so they should be good for your situation. Hens make lots of noise, but the Barred Rock makes lots of quiet noise. One more question...... are barred rocks quiet?

I got mine from a local feed mill, going back to how I'm in the country and there's a farm every few neighborhoods, so I don't have experience with shipping chicks.Ok thanks. Any tips on finding a good, reliable source to get the chickens from? What about getting them mailed?
1. The shade does not matterOkay, not sure if this helps you... But here is some info I put together for you from my personal experience anD opinions.
First: I'd like to ask you a few questions that will help me understand more what you're really wanting.
Now, I have three Brahma's. (Buff being the color). They are extremely sweethearts. I love them overall as a lil' backyard breed. But they tend to not do the best they can - should be with other breeds.
- What particular shade of brown eggs are you looking for?
- Are you okay with owning feathered-leg breeds? (Brahma).
- What temperament do you like in a breed?
- Do you want a crazy/active breed?
They are quite active and love to "run & play." They are good birds that lay longer dark brown eggs of which come across as speckled.
Next, I have Orpington's. Orpington's are extremely sweet birds that I truly suggest and love. They are original and I rate them as 'the best starter breed.' They lay longer smaller light brown eggs.
Now, I have not had Barred rocks (which are probably of your interest). But I've had Partridge Plymouth Rocks if that helps you...![]()
I still believe a Barred Rock would be the best for you, it fits all of these requirements, besides having the feathered legs. Out of my breeds, the Barred Rocks jump/fly the least amount.1. The shade does not matter
2. A feather legged breed is fine. I was already thinking about a brahma but I didn't know if they would be too big for the amount of space I have.
3. I want a calm, docile breed that likes little cuddle :3
4. I would like a breed that would not run around too much or try to hop the fence
