I am aware of the risks of quarantine vs not quarantine. I understand the concern, but I go to this ranch on a weekly basis and handle the chickens, come home and handle my own. I have done this before I read about the dangers and such, and have not had any problems thusfar. The only reason I did not quarantine this girl was that if she had something I think it would have been passed in my days of ignorance and not sanitizing my hands and clothes before going to my own flock. Yes that was stupid, but it also gave me a chance to be confident I was not bringing anything into my flock. I think if that was going to happen it would have happened 9 weeks or 10 weeks ago when I was going to this ranch on a regular basis. I do appreciate your concern though, but to each their own right? If anything happens I will only have myself to blame, I know this, but I think all will be fine. We will see, right?

As for the Dark Brahma addiction.. I thought I adored Barred Rocks! The temperment, color, everything. I love all my girls but Monica, the new girl, really does have a striking look! I am not too into the Light Brahma's, but I love the vivid patterns and colors of Dark and Buff.

Did I guess correctly on her age? Does she look around 5 months? I will get pictures with her compared to my 10 weekers.

Could you tell me the colouring of my three (one roo and two pullets, this I know) brahma chicks? Was told they were silver laced, but only one shows any good lacing, and that's a black feather with silver tips. She is a STUNNER. Is certainly silver, not white. The others have much more mottled feathers. I can get good pictures of them tomorrow. I LOVE them, and want to hatch out more brahmas to have diferent bloodlines next year, but want to know the best type to get to work on the colouring. Would really like to keep the black feather tipped with silver, as it really is striking. Probably not a breed standard colour, but I love it.

This is our Light Brahma Nellie. She's 14 months old but only 5.2 lbs....If I read correctly they can take up to 2 yrs to mature to 8 lbs right?

I specifically got her because of them being known as the 'gentle giants'...she lets other birds boss her around and just runs away, but she has a thing for attacking us when we try and pet her- NO CLUE why as we have always handled her. Just one day out of no where she began acting this way. I curbed it once, she went broody for 2 months, then started the biting thing back up. Boggles my mind as she will follow us and is friendly otherwise. Sometimes if I am just reaching for the water bowl or something she will bite me- she's made me bleed the little devil!

So we are rehoming her....trying to....

is it normal for a Light Brahma Rooster to have yellow/light Orange in his feathers?
I just noticed that my 12 month old roo is getting some streaks........
I will post a few pictures of him to show what I am talking about....

Light males do get brassiness, usually in the wing bow first, then elsewhere. It could be corn, or green grass, or sunlight. Its a no-no in show birds. Again, fairly common. Show birds are kept out of the sun to prevent it. Males usually get it before females. I've been told it is because the males are harder feathered. I would not worry about it unless you show.

I currently have at least three Brahma projects in the works. I wasn't going to share for a while. But I just couldn't contain my excitment. I got this beauty of a chick. Picture is terrible. But I plucked the poor thing from the coop in the middle of the night then blinded him with a flash. So I just snapped a quick one and put 'him' back and I didn't realize until after it was fuzzy. Anyway. I won't share just what color it is. But this being the first chick in the F1 project. It is looking better than expected.

Anyway heres just a little sneak peek to make you wonder. The chick is like 2-3 weeks old. Just beginning to get feathers.

Sadly I'm only working on Bantam at the time. I hope to add it to LF as well later on.

As far as more pictures and the other projects. We'll just have to wait and see. I'm not ready to get them out there yet. lol

But Brahmas are my favorite. And they come in so few colors. As well as getting nice ones in any color is a challege especially in LF. So I'm proud to say I am working on them. It will be awhile until I got anything nice to show off though.

Interesting colors I think I know what you are trying to achieve color wise. I am just getting into brahmas but they have become one of my favs already. For some reason having the buff, light and dark I truly love the lacing on the darks But I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I only have LF so I cant wait to see what you do in those.
