Ha ha thank you. My boy has a whole flock of vultures on each leg, so. At six weeks the feathers are already about 4 inches long. I quite like them to be honest, the two hens have much more modest feathering. He is turning out silver laced after all..... yipee!!

Are buff brahma hens a gold color or a beigey tan? I have lots of shades of brown in the yard and I am kinda of playing with the idea of adding a gold breed, but I want them to be really visibly distinct from the other brown hues in the pen.

That is my only concern at the moment, it sounds like brahmas are a fine bird!

If you look back on these pages Tim has some fine examples of buff brahmas. I'm sorry I didn't buy the gold columbians I saw a couple of months ago.

Where do I go with these guys? Mom is a lemon pyle, dad is a blue partridge. I lost dad this year, either to a heart attack or the heat.

#1 - Junior. He looks most like his dad, only with a LOT of blue. He is starting to get his gold coloration on his neck and tail. He is the only one this color.

#2 - Sandy. I have 4 this color, I think all pullets. They are kind of a faded version of a partridge hen.

#3 - Princess. There are 2 of these, both girls. Where #4 is more of a solid gold/buff color, these are lacey.

#4 and 5 - Maggy and Mel. This is a pullet and cockerel of this coloration, sort of a golden buff with the gray feathering around the neck. The boys are a very deep buff, almost red. I have several of these, and am going to have to re-home some young cocks.

Are these guys worth experimenting with? I know I have a serious vulture hock problem and am not sure how to breed it out.

One of my buff hens hatched a trio of chicks out a couple of months ago. 2 are regular buff columbian coloured, but one is buff with white columbian patterning. I am a total genetics dummy but I think this colouring is so pretty and would love to hatch some more. Was this a fluke or is it something I can work towards? My roo is Blue Columbian.

Vulture hocks on Brahmas are frowned upon here in the U.S. They are the abundance of feathers that stick out over the "knees."

This is Rocky. He has other faults but no vulture hocks.

This is a Cochin, but she has a good example of vulture hocks. Notice the excess feathering on her legs.
