Can any other Brahma owners tell me what this is on my Brahma rooster? It's his feet and legs that are red and now swollen. I'm going to try using Manna Pro Scaly Leg Mite spray and see if that's it. He used to have just red legs and now it's progressed to this.
a week ago I treated my Barred Rock with nail brush and Dawn dish soap..then I rolled her in a towel, lifted each leg and soaked every inch of toes and scales with Castor oil...rubbed in real good toes, legs feathers...I'm telling you, I could see a difference within 24hrs and one week later hardly any leg issue. I will do it again this week. I treated my other hens too just to be sure...stealing in the night for a Spa treatment!

Hey all I got the last test results back from my brahmas and have some bad news
for my half its probably going to be better in the long run for me but i do want anyone new to please look into this issue the last tests have been positive for Mycoplasma Galliseptcun < spelling ?

according too the Lab this is a type a Virus and to protect my African grey Parrot and to protect myself and other birds the best deal is to cull off all my birds the suggested i do this asap as it is a Very Bad Form of Upper Respatory Disease .

according to what i have read and been told there are other options but the birds will always be carriers ,. Using Baytril on my birds in the beginning for this the vet made it to where i should Never eat the eggs from my birds ., today i walked out to see one of my Tom turkeys with a Swollen Head around the eyes . there really is no Cure for this disease .

I will how ever disenfect the whole area as i had planned when i thought i had LT and no hope until i learned that for that and UR there is hope except for a few certain strains this being one of the worst and more dangerous for my african gray Parrot. she should nto have to have me take chances with her well being ,.

Now that being said i will get back into the Dark Brahmas when i am sure i have a safe enviorment for them again being more careful .

Part of this the biggest part is when i called the guy that sold me my origional birds telling me many times he has never had issues tell me now he treats his Birds 2 times a week and feeds Chick starter Ab to kill off the disease . to me this only Hides the symptoms , Tammy

Do brahmas get many more foot problems than non feathered breeds????
I've read that because of the feathers they can get mud/dirt/poo/whatever stuck on. This can cause toenail and toe loss apparently. I haven't had that even come close to happening but supposedly it can.

If you're raising them in a swamp maybe. Mine have always free ranged in all types of weather, up untill the recent coyote problems anyway, not really an issue.

I used petroleum jelly on my Brahma rooster's legs and in two days it was almost completely back to normal, however since yours has an infection that might not be the best thing to do.

Tammy, I am so sorry. I don't generally buy birds, I usually hatch them out, so I haven't experienced anything like this and can only imagine what you are going through. It certainly should put all of us on notice about how careful we have to be when getting birds from another person or breeder. Hopefully you'll find a way to sterilize your spaces and then you can start again. :(

Tammy best of luck. Thanks for sharing
This is the only way us small flock newbies can learn. Happy for this forum!! Very educational
