I never realized how hard it is to get a good picture of a chicken butt. She's getting ready to turn, so it moved a little. Not quite as spread as the example, but maybe it will come with more age? I'll see if I have a better picture.

Hey guys got a question my Partridge Brahma hen tends to spend a lot of time in the corners or on the ground quiet. Do you think she is about to lay or should I be concerned?.
TN thats how my issues started is she hunched and watch her eyes for bubbles and see if she is eating and drinking properly

For those looking for Dark Brahmas in Bantam or LF
My best healthiest and More to standard Birds came from John Dinale in NY

Ill post photos of my Boy Patron and then his son Chap when i can i had Made a mistake and bought more for genetic diversity that came with MG/MS and had to kill all my birds
But My Birds from John where Healthy and clean of all on the NPIP it Was only until i went and got birds Chicks and Eggs not sure what set hat the MG / MS so no names sorry that i had the isssue .

So first get healthy stock asked what the NPIP covers if they are clean get the birds if not Your taking a chance i have asked every Dark Brahma Breeder i could what does your NPIP cover and got NO responce

I asked John and he sent me a Copy and he is clean of all diseases and i know that is not easy . But before you buy Make sure your buying reputable breeders birds and a reputable breeder will not be insulted that you want healthy birds

I am sure all here will agree Health first

Why paint the barn before its built ?

I am gonna get more Dark Brahmas but i am still waiting for a few things and have to rebuilt my coop and stuff want to be more secure then before Loving all the photos Tammy

Thank you for the encouragement! It will be a few years down the road before I see some results, but I'm very hopeful that I can encourage more kids into the fair!
All you need to do is ask the TSC to get a better selection of dual purpose breeds. Are you on your Counties 4-H poultry Committee? You can have much better sway from an inside position. it's also very important to get the parents involved. Too many people think chicken comes from a grocery store wrapped in plastic! They have no idea of the "garden" of breeds and colors that exist.

I agree. I work with the fair board, so I'm pretty familiar with most of the 4-H leaders. Unfortunately, most of the leaders are into sheep, pigs, goats and cows. We've talked about starting our own club that focuses on poultry, but so far haven't worked that end. I've talked to the two feed stores that bring in chicks and am hopeful that they will bring in more diversity this year. I've also scheduled a chat with the two FFA clubs. I think it will take a few years, but I'm sure that we'll get something going in the next year or two. The true test will be to see how many birds are shown at the county fair. I'm trying to convince some of the kids that are raising other animals that adding a few chickens wouldn't add that much work. At least you don't have to walk chickens :)

Please please please don't promote hatchery birds. Encourage them to buy quality birds from a breeder. It's taken a while but at my fair we are finally starting to get some quality birds.

I'd encourage y'all to find local quality breeders and help refer people to them. As brahmabreeder said, it's important to support and promote the real birds over the hatchery birds which are poor examples of the real breed in size, conformation, temperament, among other things. The American Poultry Association (and the Brahma Club since we're in that thread) have regional directors that would be more than happy to help you connect with good breeders in your area.

Im not promoting hatchery Birds John is a breeder .
but many wont tell you what their if they have one NPIP covers . so how can we buy from them i have asked many in my area
