Tim, Buff look good, but keep an eye on the back with the cape feathers. In my area the black spots that show outside of the Hackle feathers on the back will be severly deducted. They can have these as long as they do not show up when the bird is standing normally. Bill Bowman would not breed to a Buff with the too much cape feathering.

Thanks Don. I don't think the hackles are finished yet. I am confident the feathers you speak of will be covered.(Gosh, I hope!) I think most of those baby hackles will be replaced too. These birds are just 3 to 3&1/2 months. I hope the hackle color will be better too. I appreciate your candor. I will certainly heed the Bill Bowman advice!

Tim, What do you think about doing some discussions like we had on the other site. We could discuss the total Brahma and anything anyone wanted to ask.

I got my scanner this week also. I would email Kim Aldrich and give him your correct info. He took over as secretary when Sandy stepped down. Thats a big job. I am glad someone is willing to do it. Are you going to advertize in the new handbook? I took out a half page, to help out the club. I mostly enjoy the hobby. If I could sell a bird or two along to help with feed, show travel expenses, etc, that would be okay. I'm not trying to get rich. I don't remember commentig on your birds, but they look great! Hi everybody! Happy fathers day.

I have a question about early culling as far as the bantams go. What do you guys look for at a couple months old to cull and to keep? I am at the stage where I hatched too many and need to down size. Also what should I be looking for in my buff males at this point too? All of my lights and about %50 of my buffs are neff lines.

At two months there are not many things you should cull for except for skeletal faults like split wing, twisted wing. Crooked toes and any major faults you can see. Do not cull for feathers until after the first molt of the baby feathers.

I talked with Tim about doing a complete discussion about the Bantam and Large Brahma. If anyone is interested lets us know.

SB, i'm right there with you. I have a ton of birds also. Don is 100% right though. It is better to wait until your birds are older to cull. This has been about the hardest part of the hobby to me. I have learned from experience in the bantams its better to hold off until AT LEAST four months.

I have Neff birds also. The lights have excellent color. They are not as powerfully built as the buffs though. I put a neff male on some spence/williams and spence/williamsxArbuckle/Rust females. I'm pretty satisfied with the results. My neff buffs were great overall, with the possible exception of the tail. They were not as well spread-inverted"U" like the standard calls for. I put a Wide feathered, wide tailed Spence/williams male on my neff females and I think that has worked out pretty well. I will tell you, I got eggs from John last year and got some outstanding birds. I would highly recommend him to anyone. He has some of the best brahmas and sells high quality eggs. I got eggs from him a couple of times and had good results both times. Most shipped eggs are a terrible gambel, not so much with him. He is also a master breeder in the ABC club point system.
