Brahmas lay well, not like a Leghorn, but pretty good. They are a big, pretty bird. Very calm and friendly as well. You have my personal guarantee you will not regret getting a few Brahmas! I don't have any birds from Cackle hatchery or know anyone who does, so I can't comment on that. You can't go wrong with Brahmas.

Never had brahmas from a hatchery - but brahmas in general are awesome birds, big, fluffly, pretty, sweet tempered, and easy going. They are decent layers too - I'd say 5 eggs a week.

I've had my 2 year old brahma for a whole month and it has only laid one egg. It was pretty much white. But she was sold to me as a one month layer, meaning she only lays for one month ih the summer. I'll get some pictures soon.

Here are the pics....she has vulture hocks, and is a little skittish, but she is BEAUTIFUL!

Can someone explain vulture hocks? My rooster has feathering on his legs that look like an extra pair of wings they are so huge, is this it??

Vulture hocks on Brahmas are accepted in the U.K. but not here in the U.S.

This is Rocky. He has other faults, but no vulture hocks. Look right above his "knees."

This is Splash. He/she is a Cochin, but I didn't have a good picture of a Brahma with vulture hocks. Notice the excessive feathering above the knees.
