Dan, do your silver laced brahma occaisionally throw gold laced? I have some silver laced from Greenfire but one feathered in gold laced and wasn't sure what to do with it? It is very pretty
When can you start to see gender differences in Brahmas? What should I look for first? I have 10 but can only keep 2. I have someone interested in the rest .. Only want girls
I got my first Brahma chick this year and I am amazed at how calm and docile she is. She's almost a little dopey. Kind of like a large simple-wit. Reminds me a lot of Lenny in Of Mice and Men. She has quickly skyrocketed to the top of my favorites list. She is buff colored. Is this a common characteristic in Brahmas? All colors? I would like to get a dark brahma as well if they tend towards such silly, dopey, sweet dispositions.
I wish more people would discover how amazing they are! I have a pair of Light Brahmas that are Bantams and they are my favorites. Quite friendly and calm and they lay a large egg despite their size! Love 'em and would love to find someone local to get two Buffs from. I heard they are or can be broody but nothing yet here. I may get some eggs if I cannot find pullets and put them under my Silkie mix if she goes broody again. I cannot say enough about the breed. I have heard that it is the breed in general that has a great personality and all colors are the same as far as temperment. Someone correct me if I am worng as I only have the Light.
As promised here (a little late, but it has been crazy around here) are the pictures of the PVC feeders I made. It was less than $6.00 to make. It was a 2'' piece of PVC approx 2.5 ' long, a 2'' cap, the "V" joint and a plug. Once you put them together you can attach it to the inside of your coops with zip ties or brackets however you choose.
Here are a few shots of the flock since I have thinned out - Floridamama bought 4 Partridge Hens, Three cockerals, a dark pullet, a partridge pullet, our lemon blue splash rooster, eggs and a few chicks from us this season. I think she is in love with these Partridge birds like I am! LOL
I lifted up a Partridge Hen to find these...
The coops were all cleaned with new shavings and a half of cold watermelon.
Hi everyone. I was hoping that someone could answer a question I have about one of our dark brahmas. This is coco, and we assume he is a boy due to his coloring. The question I have is actually about his coloring, I have looked and looked online but I haven't seen any other dark brahmas that have coloring that looks like his.He is very dark, with a dark brown pattern on his feathers. He does have white on his neck and seems to be getting some white on his chest that looks a little like lacing. He is 11 weeks old. Is this a normal color for a dark brahma male? Sorry the pics aren't great, he is our friendliest chick and he thinks he has to be in my lap all the time so it was hard to get a pic of all of him at one time.
