Thanks for your comments, CCL. It is so true- I am not just going to have the two- in fact I am going next weekend to fetch me a trio but 2 of them will be younger than these. These two are related and I want to get new blood. I am from South Africa and not sure weather the vulture hocks are a problem here or not. It does seems to me we do follow mostly the European standards here. I will post pictures of my new babies as soon as I get them. The lady has started to lay- she gave 11 eggs this past month. She had some stresses- 8 hour trip and then a new home. I am enjoying them so much

I beg to differ.

I love some UK birds but I prefer mine to not have vulture hocks, and I prefer the American Araucana to the UK, umm, Araucana if that's what you call them.

They probably say the same thing about our Araucanas...

You know I wasn't even thinking of Birds when the original comment was made..LOL!!! I saw Uk, and mind went elsewhere... darn flu bug is making me delusional.

HAHA Raven, I wish....Lol although I love my husband just the same only accent he has is a Rez accent. As do my kids now. So I was all paranoid about the whole Vulture Hocks bit...did my research and thank god I realized my big boy doesn't have them. Would have cried....

I'm looking for a quality pair or trio of large fowl Brahmas for a junior. I will be at the Ohio National if you know anyone who has some nice birds. Thanks

I have 2 dark brahmas that I got from Ideal back in February. It should have been 3, but one died on day 2.

I am totally in love with these two girls. Their personality, their size -there just seems to be a grace about them. On the down side, whereas Garnet started laying in September, Galena has never laid an egg. I picked her up the other day and was completely shocked to find out she weighed next to nothing! I'm going to start bringing her in afternoons when I get home and give her some extra protein/fat snacks, but I don't have a clue why she's so super skinny. Yesterday, I scrambled two eggs for her. She picked at them - seemed to drop more than she ate, but ate about half in-between naps. She's a real cuddlebunny. When I put her back in the run, she ate some more from the feeder, then went out to the horse pen and jumped up on the trough to get some water. She's acting completely normal, so I just don't know what could be wrong.

Here's Galena:

And here's her hatchmate, Garnet:

Both pictures are from August. They "look" bigger now.

The issue with your pullet may be worms or lice, might want to check for that. Other than that they look healthy.
