Hey Steve, Thanks for correcting me on that I didn't know anything about this Medicine Man you speak of

I have only heard about Dan and was told he was the creator of these 3 breeds/colors? Either way I'm not Impressed with the Silver Laced at all and not trying to be rude I know everyone has there own opinion! I thinks I like the Buffs the Best but my Golds are Growing on me aswell.

The thing that gets me with the laced birds lately is that there are a few people selling "laced brahmas" on ebay and using Dan and Gary's names as selling points to sell junk! Looks like most of them were crossed back to light/buff and they are trying to sell them as laced.

Since we're on the topic. I've got a breeding question that may show my ignorance of these things. I bought some Silver Laced Brahma hatching eggs from a farm in Ohio in Dec, and ended up with 3 pullets. Since I don't have a male bird other than a Light, I suspect that the cross would produce males and females with incomplete lacing. I'm wondering if breeding the incompletes together or back to the fully laced birds would produce at least a few fully laced birds? Or is either option so inadvisable that I should just find a silver laced rooster? By the way Big Medicine, I think the SLB hen is the queen of all poultry.

We got our Dark Brahma Pullets in the mail today and one of them is a lot darker than the others, is this a normal color varience (it has feathered feet too)? There was 1 extra than what we ordered, so I'm not sure if they are all pullets or if 1 is a rooster. Is there anyway to tell before thier feathers come in?
Thanks a bunch

Just a reply regarding the post that it appears that Dan Powell has " thrown in the towel". I would not say that Dan has thrown in the towel, but that he is on to other projects in life. He has dispersed all of his livestock I think, but he is a young man and may be back working with poultry and llamas in the future. Who knows ? Probably not even him at this time.
He accomplished some pretty remarkable things with the chickens and llamas in a short time.

i fully agree, and i wish him well

I ordered a brahma and I got some chicks but I can't identify them. There is one that looks somewhat like a brahma but she has featherless feet.

could be wyandotte

hey, just a quick question from a brahma fan: who is the originator of the silver laced brahma strain? thanks!

There is little doubt that Big Medicine developed the Silver Laced variety. I doubt that Dan P reads the posts here any longer, but if so he will get a kick out the one that says he must be near 70 years old. In fact he may not be over 40.

My first hatch of blue Brahma babies. So far no vulture hocks. As far as the rest, what do y'all think?

This one is beside a partridge
