Anyone want a free Dark Brahma Rooster? I'm in New Holland, OH....no shipping. He's 3 1/2 months old and hatchery stock. I'd love to keep him, but we live inside town limits and he started crowing all freaking day. would like him to go to a good home soon.

If it comes to that, there is a small swap, not too far from you, this Sunday. Near the intersection of I-71 and St. Rt. 73, across the road from the Caesar Creek Flea Market. May not be your first choice, but probably better than getting the neighbors all up in arms.

So far He's not bothering people, but we are all stuck inside most of the time with AC on. but if you have the windows open or go outside you can definately hear him. I don't have too many neighbors, So I can hold onto him if I need too. I just think he's too pretty to eat, and I've gotten kinda attached to him. He's started to chase down the 3 hens and try to breed them already, so they aren't too happy wth him

Mine chases, er gallops, after the hens. He's a bit obsessive. But at least he's not damaging their feathers like my Blue Andalusian. For a big boy, he's remarkably gentle on the girls.

I hope this is the right place to post this and that all the Brahma owners here can shed some light....

I purchased LF Light and Dark Brahma chicks from a hatchery a few weeks ago. The Lights are a delight, sweet and calm. The Darks are just the opposite...they fight constantly, attack me and pinch hard not just peck. They are 2.5 weeks old now with enough feathers that I think I have 10 pullets and 2 roos. I seperated the 2 roos out last night and put them in their own cage....they fought to exhaustion, I thought they were going to kill each other.

Is this normal for 2.5 week old chicks? Are all Dark Brahmas like this? Even the pullets are really mean.

It's not been my experience. I have 2 dark hens (1+ year old) and one dark cockerel (4 months), all Ideal hatchery, and all three of them are docile and sweet. I did have one light cockerel that was a little pushy, but he wasn't mean. I can't remember any of them being aggressive at 2.5 weeks! My experience is limited though. Maybe someone else with more years of Brahmas will chime in.

This all started last Saturday at 2 weeks old! I had them all together in a 3'x5' brooder and the Darks attacked one of the Lights pulling out all his/her tail feathers to the point of bleeding. I took out the injured bird and after watching the fighting continue took out all the Darks and put them in a seperate brooder. I tried putting just 2 or 3 Dark pullets back in with the Lights but they still attacked the Lights so now they are all seperated but I don't know where to go from here as I won't keep two seperate flocks. Very dissapointing as I was so happy to get so many pullets from a straight run purchase.
