How old are they, because one looks to be a young rooster.

19 weeks...and, hen or roo, we are asking ourselves everyday! What do you think?

The Buff Bantam male in the post is most definitely a cross, look at the white tail feathers and also the Tail coverts are white. The male has ear lobes as large as a wattle should be , He just does not have Brahma type. The females have black ticing on the back coming from being too dark of a undercolor.

If you want to breed to the SOP let these go and find something to make the work easier.

I would love to breed but I have my work cut out for me with my Cochins, d'uccles and jersey giants. I was just wondering how these were. I can't get rid of them they are here to live out their lives unless the family wants them back. It was one way that I could help them in the face of the tragedy that they going through.

That being said I asked because I do believe in breeding to standard and wouldn't want to pass off junk. They are beautiful and the friendliest birds I have except for my show quality black Cochin hen. Which makes me think the little girl was a 4her and she was showing them. The 4h birds around here almost never live up to the standard. Should give my kids one heck of a shot next yr when they start showing for 4h. So these birds will just be pets for my laying flock.

Do you say that because of the comb and wattles or becuase of feather shape? I'm just wanting to learn all I can.

We were lucky enough to receive a quad of bantam buff brahma this past weekend. I am simply amazed at how calm these birds are. They are so sweet and my oldest son has taken to them quickly! He adores his roo the most.










I am eager to learn all I can about this beautiful breed.

The comb, wattles, and feathers give it away. The feathers come down in a sword like shape for roosters. Hens feathers tend to be shorter and rounder at the ends.

The roo will get saddle feathers soon and look much different but for now the comb and wattles give it away.

I don't have much experience with hatchery birds, not sure what to make of the light with the more pronounced comb/wattles. Nothing in its build, or feather says male to me, yet it does have a somewhat masculine looking head. I guess time will tell.

The feathers look like the same on both of my LBs to me, but I'm not well educated in that department. Would you say both my LBs have different feather shapes? Like male/female feathers.
