Brand New to raising chickens.......

Good Afternoon......I am about 45mins north of Sacramento and I have always thought that is Northern California, although I can't say I have given it a lot of thought...lol.
Anyway, if anyone is from around this area/climate I would love your advice about any challenges you have encountered....as I said I am a complete chicken virgin and I am very excited but I want to get it right. I want a nice safe environment for my new additions.

I'm northwest of Sac, also. What town are you near?

It gets extremely hot where I live. My chickens have either adapted or died, so I have very heat tolerant birds. Otherwise, they do fine. We are lucky to have a relatively mild climate here in Cali.
