UGH!!! I don't have a chance to get online every day. Drats! Just saw this, and missed it by 9 hrs. Thank you for the info though. If I can't find any pullets for my cockerel, I probably will try to find him a good home. With this breed being so rare I don't want him to be by himself.

Hi everyone!

New to this thread and new to Breda-- I have 9 Blue Bredas on lockdown right now, waiting for a pip!

Is there anyway to sex these as chicks (some breeds will have markings or different wing tips, etc).
I figured it would probably be one of those wait and see breeds, but thought I'd ask.

Usually tail feather sexing at about a week old works pretty well for me, but not perfect.

Good luck sexing the Bredas at an early age! We had the hardest time with ours. Hackles and saddles were when we were sure.

Thanks for the advice.
I'm hoping if they all hatch I can get a few good guesses by tail feathering at a week to at least narrow it down to a few to grow out.
They went on lockdown Saturday all looking good and no pips yet so I'm a little worried. Only a couple were rocking around...

Well band them when you sex them from the tail feathers and report back in 4 months how many were correct. I don't have any skill at all in feather sexing, but will learn if it can give me a better than about 70% accuracy at a week old.
