Hi everyone! Okay so I know it’s impossible to pinpoint this batch of chicks’ specific breeds, but I’m curious if y’all have any ideas of parent breeds, potential feathering patterns, or what breeds might be the most prominent based on what the chick looks like right now. Obviously just for fun, since I know narrowing this down is probably impossible lol. Feel free to take a stab at what sex they might be as well! They hatched under a broody hen, so I can't say for sure who came from what egg, except for chick 6 lol.

I got a mixture of hatching eggs from a local breeder, so I know 4 of these have to be olive eggers, and 1 is an Orpington/Wyandotte cross. I know chick 6 is a BBS ameraucana. I also know other breeds this farm used to make their olive eggers are black and chocolate copper marans, BBS ameraucana, and welsummers.

(Legs are feathered)

Chick 6 (I know this one is from her BBS ameraucana pen, so would this one be a blue?)

The first one may be the Wyandotte cross, judging by its comb, which looks to be a rose comb. The gene for rose combs is dominant so I'd expect a Wyandotte cross chick to have one. But this could be an olive egger, too, if it has a pea comb. Really too early to tell.

4 and 5 have pea combs and fit for olive eggers.

6 is indeed blue. So it she is breeding blue and splash Ameraucanas together, with no black Ameraucanas in the pen, then this has to be the pure Ameraucana. Otherwise, 5 could be the pure Ameraucana and this one the olive egger. Time will tell.

2 and 3 have single combs. Either or both could be olive eggers, or they could be other mixes.

Thank you!

The first one does appear to have a bit of a different comb than 4 and 5, so you may be right! I know it's hard to tell in the photo, and because they're so young and tiny.

6 is the only one I know came from the only blue egg in the clutch. I asked the farmer and she said her ameraucana pen is blue and splash hens and a blue roo!

You will be able to tell more as they grow, especially when they lay. They are at the stage where they are very cute, so enjoy it while you can.
