Breeding a new chicken breed

I've seen that almost all cranial vaults come up back in F2 in those chicks that have two copies of the crest gene. And finding polish here without the vault gene is quite a headache because we only keep Polish in India for show.
Same with the Silkies I've seen and had atleast. The texture wasn't a problem, because I observed them in the crosses where feather texture was hard- even in F1, the those crossed with landrace fowl had feathers covering their sides, in the Brahma crosses, they were slightly smaller.

That's very interesting. I've never been in a position to do those crosses myself, so I was guessing from what I've been able to find online. It's nice to hear how it came out although of course disappointing that the results were not what you wanted

I do know you're trying to help out ill try a few crosses again. I mean won't hurt trying to get a unique bird

Though, my first thought on crest was actually that of the legbar. Gots some Spitz only later...

There aren't shows in the traditional sense. There are shows like how one owner shows off a whole host of different breeds of birds, and perhaps pheasants as well. A sort of an exhibition.
And ofcourse, when I meant show, I meant their saleability in pet shops/markets for people who want them to buy. My bad

I have heard of a poultry show in one state in South India, Haven't got more details.

Cute! I love the wood cage! Those beards are pretty big for the smallest ones, wow!

Those are made from bamboo. They used to be made for this particular kind of chicken called Aseel, a tall bird used in fights. That's been outlawed now, and it's just still sold for cooping chickens in at night, if they're housed with cattle (they sometimes are by farmers).
I got some to quarantine birds before let out with the others, and to separate any roosters I want to use for future breeding.

I've actually attached a picture of one of the Silkie crosses in the beginning of this thread.

I actually realised I have one of that one's offspring in our mixed flock yesterday. The father is a Brahma. The crest seems greatly reduced. I'll probably keep her for future crosses to see how homozygous genes show up.
