Breeding Naked Necks

there are 7 hens and just one roo in the pen. I'm thinking he's just too rough. the roo is about 1 year. But the girls are just at laying age.

That beaut is a she. That color for some reason seems to be a dominant color in hatchery stock NN.. pretty though!

I hope not. My hubby has these great plans to breed turkens and to have our first breeding age girls have this issue is not encouraging. I'm not a big fan of the breed and am not excited to have to deal with constant wounds like this. I have no intention of AI either.

It's good to know they should toughen up. I can't imagine how the breed would do in backyard flocks if all the hens ended up damaged.

It's uncommon. Have had gee.. maybe 500+ naked necks over 15 years or so and only remember it happeing hm, 6 times tops.

It IS shocking to see the first time.. but they recover astonishingly well and normally doesn't happen again, even on same hen/roo. They will breed normal.. if it does happen again, it is something about the rooster not the naked neck hen..

Have to say your hubby has great taste..

What's his grand plans?
